Coconut oil for Veronica

My almost 3 year old daughter has or rather gets bad eczema breakouts on her cheeks and is very sensitive to lotions or sunscreens.   I know how miserable this can be because I had the same thing as a kid. That's why I was so stoked to find a free book on amazon (ereader) called coconut oil handbook. (It may no longer be free).  Then I found this site that explains how coconut oil is one of the best things for eczema even in children. Here's an exerpt from that site.

Coconut oil for eczema is one of the best things people can use to help combat the symptoms and heal the skin. Coconut oil contains antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that help to prevent infections and help to heal broken raw skin. Coconut oil also contains healthy vitamins and nutrients like lauric acid, caprylic acid and capric acid, Vitamin K and E that helps to alleviate itching and soothes the skin. Unlike many prescription eczema medications, coconut oil does not contain any chemicals, preservatives and\or other unhealthy ingredients. When an unrefined virgin coconut oil is used it does not just help to soothe eczema symptoms, it helps to heal the skin and keep it safe from infection. Coconut oil and eczema treatment is best when an organic, virgin, unrefined, cold pressed coconut oil is used. NOW Foods, pure coconut oil is an excellent coconut oil for eczema. - See more at: here

I personally love coconuts in most every form.  I don't use the oil much but have before.  I love my unsweetened almond coconut milk and my coconut body wash.  So finding products that are coconut and helpful for me and my kinds kinda made my day.

First there is a recipe for bath melts which are awesome although I don't often let my kids take baths.  This would probably be great if I know we were going to be outside an extra lot or thought her skin was getting to dry. Here is what you use, shouldn't cost to much I don't think.

2 tsp cocoa butter
2 tsp coconut oil
6 tsp sweet almond oil
1 tsp jojoba oil
5-8 drops essential oils
1 vanilla bean inside
( I think that's optional)

Next is a body butter that sounds like it would work great as a lotion I'm thinking. Because after her skin gets dry lotion only makes her break out. The whole term body butter still has me a little confused though. But it's supper easy only 2-3 ingredients.

1 cup coconut oil
1 tsp vitamin E oil (optional)
drops essential oils (optional)
Then you basically just whip it up till it's
soft and store in air tight container.

I will probably avoid the extra fragrant oils though, they aren't needed and the coconut smells awesome enough as is.  Besides I don't want anything else that would cause her skin irritations.

I had to laugh at the coconut deodorant though, I'm thinking not at least not for me.

Although it says in the website that refined coconut oil won't work near as well as pure unrefined oil I'm curious as to how well it does work and will give it a try.  If her skin gets to bad then we'll pull all the stops but hopefully we can avoid that as much as possible.  I know something about the climate at my dads makes it much worse even in just a day or two so I'm gonna have to have something that will travel.  So happy for the possibilities.

I am so thankful that it doesn't bother her now but I know that when she gets older it will, rather it's just irritating or causes any self consince issues I don't know but it's better to get a hold on it now rather than wait till later.  Besides she'll LOVE all the extra special attention.  Being the middle child is really hard on her but that's another story for another day :) She fell asleep in my lap while I was looking up info for this article so I think we're done for the night.
