My P90X experience
P90X MY DAY BY DAY
So my husband borrowed this disk set from a friend and it's been on our shelves for a bit so I thought I'd try it out because I NEED SOMETHING to get me going and something had to change in my fitness routine. I made up my own check off list and got started. I have a goal of burning off at least 35 lbs this year. I'm working on eating clean whole foods and making things from scratch. My youngest is 18 months and I have been up to 245 with her. I'm down to 215 and yearning to get back into some old clothes.
Day 1 Disk 1 Chest & Back w/ Abs
Did both sets and feel really shaky afterword but it's awesome! I end up with a few extra breaks because I have 3 kids running around me I need to get up earlier. Haven't done that many push ups since grade school.
Day 2 Disk 2 Plyometrics
Wow my arms hurt from yesterday and I didn't realize it until the end stretching that my abs are sore to. Todays workout got the heart rate going! I need/want a heart rate monitor to see where I'm at. My 7 year old joined in on a bit hear and there. The calculator says I burned 1030 cal.
Day 3 Disk 3 Shoulders and Arms
So I jumped on the scale this morning and WOW I gained 3lbs! Not what I was expecting but I know this is a good program so what's the hitch? I did a little research and basically it's water retention from the muscles recovering. Ok I get that, time to stick to it! Here's a bit of what they had to say
Disk 4 Day 12
Oh my goodness I am so tired, this is beyond boring. Only got through 30 minutes of it this time because I was about to fall asleep. Next time.
one two skip a few 99 100. Well that sucked but going to pick up again and go. It's Monday again so that means disk one, but because of the form I made I have 2 more of week 3 to cross off so I might do a double today, my husband wants to work out with me (so he says) this evening so I'll give him the choice of disk 5 or 6 and cross them off last week. Disk 6 is really easy anyways (as I've said before yoga is more intense) so that shouldn't be a problem.
Week 3
I know I didn't finish the program but this is ridiculous. All I did was gain weight and feel miserable. It's really hard to get that much time to myself any how. Then I run across some other reviews about people who did this program and didn't lose weight at all after 90 days! They did tone up a bit but that was it. I'm sorry yes toning up is good but I need to lose 60 lbs. Might use it periodically for a workout but I'm not into a program that kicks your butt for nothing. Maybe after I reach my weight goal it will be another goal to reach. I can't see that far right now.

"The motivation to start a new exercise program is almost always to lose weight. However, what most personal trainers know–and most at-home exercisers do not–is that a new exercise program often can cause an immediate (and temporary) increase on the scale. (Notice I didn’t say weight gain! I’ll explain.) This common increase in the scale is also the reason why perhaps millions of people start and then quickly quit their resolution to get fit.
The temporary weight gain explained:
When someone starts a new exercise program, they often experience muscle soreness. The more intense and “unfamiliar” the program, the more intense the muscle soreness. This soreness is most prevalent 24 to 48 hours after each workout. In the first few weeks of a new program, soreness is the body trying to “protect and defend” the effected or targeted tissue. Exercise physiologists refer to this as delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS.

Exercise physiologists refer to this as delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS.
This type of soreness is thought to be caused by tissue breakdown or microscopic tears in muscle tissue. When this happens, the body protects the tissue. The muscle becomes inflamed and slightly swollen due to fluid retention. This temporary retention of fluid can result in a 3- to 4-pound weight gain within a few weeks of a new program. Keep in mind that muscle soreness is not necessarily a reflection of how hard you worked. In fact, some people feel no signs of muscle soreness, yet will experience the muscle protection mechanisms of water retention and slight swelling.
Most people are motivated enough to put up with this temporary muscle soreness. Yet, many, especially those who really need immediate weight loss to keep them motivated, become discouraged and quit!
When I worked with a group of 70 test participants during the development stages of ChaLEAN Extreme, this happened. Who was the most upset and discouraged? You guessed it… the women! I’m happy to report absolutely for every single woman (and man) in our group, the weight increase was temporary and never lasted more than two weeks before they started to see a major drop in the scale" For the rest go HERE.
DAY 4 DISK 4 YOGA X
GOOD, 120 minutes of it? Wow couldn't do that all in one stretch or I'd fall asleep. Did 20 minutes in the morning and the rest that evening. Did ok once I got into the rhythm of it. It's just to relaxed for me to get into I think but I'll keep it up the moves are good stretches and after disk 1 , 2, & 3 I need it!
DAY 5 DISK 5 LEGS AND BACK
GOOD, really feeling it (especial the next day!)
DAY 6 DISK 6 KENPO X
GOOD, but hard at times because I was laughing so much at how stupid it was. Think I got a better workout from yoga. Sorry people I'm not a fighter and I think most of those moves just look stupid and feel like nothing.
DAY 7 - REST
WEEK 2!
DAY 8
About 15 minutes in doing pull ups with chair and I feel something specific in my abs getting really tight. Didn't think much of it and decided to work on through it. 18 minutes in and I get ready to do a decline push up. Feet are up hands are down and then it hits. Something in my abs feels like it snaps and I fall to the floor! Unable to move for a few, my daughter hands me my water which I place on my lower abs as it hurts and I struggle to move and get up on the bed. My husband thinks I might have giving myself a hernia, I'm hoping I just pulled something. Either way I've been ordered the week (or more) off from P90X.
A week later.
It's Monday again I have got to try, still fill a little pull in my abs but it doesn't hurt much and I've got to do something if I want to change where I'm at. No pull up bar just bands and push ups with knees. Felt it a bit but not to much, gonna skip the ab workout till maybe next week. I hate internal injuries because you can't see them! You don't really know what's going on and when the drive to push, push, push is stopped by that's gonna cost you a lot of $ at the hospital if your not careful. Well that just sucks. Weight hasn't changed (but I did lose the initial 3 lbs that I gained) at all but after the muscle is built up it should be easier than if I just did cardio.
So for Week 2
Disk 1 Day 8(redo)
Took it easy but still tried to move, didn't break much of a sweat but my arms are tired from the push ups. Gonna drink some water and try to move more tomorrow!
Day 9
Missed a day , life happens just got to busy with kids and chores. We will pick it up tomorrow!
Disk 2 Day 10
Wow that so kicks my butt! Had to make several stops because it was way to hot in my room and having 3 kids and 2 large dogs under my feet made things a little complicated. That's what I get for sleeping in (hey the baby was up till 5am or something give me a break!) Downed almost 2 servings of water during and now I got a 16oz Beat it juice. Gotta get in to this.
Disk 3 Day 11
Shoulders and Arms! Ya my left arm was already hurting from walking with a 20 lb kid for hours last night but I made it through! I hate changing weights and I only have 10's and 15's so for right now I just stuck with the 10's and for the most part that was fine as long as I did 15-20 reps. I also went ahead and did the ab workout at the end of the disk. I only did about 15 of most of the 25 rep workouts and paid very close attention to my lower abdominal's to make sure I didn't get hurt again. My arms are definitely tired and are going to be sore tomorrow but it's a good thing :) Best news was after my shower I weighed in at 207 (AH I said it!) I hate being above the 200 mark but about 40 days ago I was 215 so we're getting somewhere in the right direction. Lets keep moving!Disk 4 Day 12
