What do I want to teach my children.
What is a parent suppose to teach their children? When I homeschooled the answer was simple, everything! Now that my kids are in a public school I struggle a little more with what I need to spend time on. There are things that I still need to impart on them but I also recognize that they have very busy/full days and don't want to overload them with the extra curriculum. Now based on this particular school where one teacher told me they simply don't have the time to teach grammar and spelling in 2nd grade and my 6th grader wasn't assigned a single reading book all year, not to mention seeing no science or history being taught to the elementary kids at all. I do have some work to do.
I'm still using Ambleside Online as a base and I love it. I'll be working on a check-off sheet to help guide me through some topics. I also want to coordinate with what the school is doing. For instance, my 3rd grader is studying the planets right now, so we picked out a bunch of books to help her with her reading. I require each child to read for 20-30 minutes a day and then I will read to them for about an hour. Then about 10-20 minutes on math. They don't get homework for the most part from school so I use this to help with their personal study skills.
Then the fun comes on the weekend when we practice cooking, budgeting, meal planning, sewing, handy crafts.

As the kids are in school I'm going to adjust this and use it mostly as a resource guide and have left space to add in.
