Always time for art

I was hardly awake when my oldest daughter came into my room and saw the wonderful sunrise.  She asked if she could paint it.  I'm rubbing my eyes wondering what she's talking about.

I mumble "sure after your studies are done." Thinking work before play, every day.

Well maybe not, so as I get up I hear her doing her chores and making her own plan to get her studies done in a very short amount of time.  Wow cool some self motivation! What I didn't realize is she didn't want to paint a sunset, she wanted to paint this sunset.  She quickly noticed that it had gone and she'd have to try again tomorrow.  At least that's the plan I heard.

A little while later I'm busy getting her sisters up and going and my nose is stuck in a book.  Hum guess I don't apply that work before play very well to my own life.  That's when I notice that she is no where to be found.  I check all the rooms and everything is silent.  Where did she go?  This is why I keep the front door bolted, I know no one went out the front door because you can't bolt it from the other side without a key.

Then I see her, she's outside sitting in the yard, its snowing and cold.  She has her paints and is painting the morning sky.  I almost wanted to yell at her to get in the house, put a coat on for goodness sakes.  Didn't I say wait!  But I didn't, this moment isn't going to last all day.  I'm tired and cold and not exactly on the ball myself.  Let her in joy her moment.  Some peace that she doesn't have to share with her little sisters.  We'll get lessons done soon enough.  The laundry will get folded eventually.  Sometimes we just need to sit back and enjoy the morning, whatever that means for you.
I greeted her back in with some hot coco and oatmeal.  Ok, now we can start our day.  No yelling about how things need to be, just reading, discussing, learning and growing in all that there is to learn.  Seeking all God has for us right here, right now.

Good morning.

  1. although I didn't have any input to how that transpired, know that I am proud of you and your reaction, and your ways of seeing and experiencing the little Joys of Life. If God gave you that moment of pause, or a mommy blessing, to see what was really going on at that moment. life is a journey, not a destination. Be at PEACE. God bless you greatly.
