tv in the childrens bedroom?
I have fought with this for a long time. Although I don't let the girls watch a lot of TV it is nice to have them settled down for a little while if you have something you need to concentrate on. If you know my girls the term 'settle down' doesn't fit very well lol. They are both very active, curious and smart.
When the idea of putting a TV in their room came up I was thinking temporary, portable something. Mostly when the guys are playing some shooter game in the living room (and really don't want to be bothered). I went looking for one and right before I purchased it when "what am I doing? they don't NEED a TV in their room how spoiled are they?" the question I think I should have asked is how much do we all enjoy mommy's sanity?
Jannel is usually ok, she knows her bedtime and as long as everything is routine and we aren't doing anything else (lol). She gets her stories, brushes her teeth and swishes (she will get up an hour later to remind you if you forget) and loves to EVERYONE that may be in the house. But little miss Veronica needs to be in bed as well. She just can't sleep if she doesn't know where sissy is. There lies the problem.
Veronica - in her quiet, comfortable home is always active ( I say this for those who have seen her around a new setting or lots of people she just sits and watches). She is a very busy child. At 10 months she is trying very hard to walk and is able to pull her self up to a stand with just about anything. She rarely naps unless she passes out. Some of the only times she does this are to driving in the car and ... you guessed it - TV. I have fought this tooth and nail but in the end can't put a firm stand on why.
Tonight we we're busy with trying to but the child seat on the bike and getting a little frustrated with it. It was almost bedtime and I really didn't want a 2 hour fight with my little angel (I'm really tired of fighting her). So I put the laptop up in their room with Jannels current favorite 'Magic School Bus' and in a few minutes she (V) was out. An hour later Jannel was still watching (duh it's her favorite show! and every episode is on youtube) I turned it off she had a drink of water, bathroom break and prayer and off she went to bed all on her own. Ahhh amazing night, no fighting, so peaceful. Tell me again what the problem was?
Yes I am going to cut down the time. One episode in about 15-20 minutes and that would be plenty! I'm not sure though, Jannel knows full well how to use the laptop and does regularly I kind of want to get her a small TV with a VHS in it. (hey outdated is cheep). Well I'm not buying anything now and when I do it's going to be small. Their room is crowed enough. Probably with a wall mount. I have a very hard time going to sleep without either the radio or in spring the frogs singing. So why should I expect my little me to fall asleep in absolute silence? She needs something to pull her attention for long enough that her mind can stop racing. (Oh ya she's my child!)
